Fluids
Stay hydrated with water or sports drinks. Performance can be enhanced with the right amount of fluid and electrolytes.
How much? Two hours prior, drink 16 ounces. Thirty minutes prior, drink another 8 ounces. During practice and competition, try to get in 4-8 ounces every 15 minutes. Reload following exertion.
Calories
Eat real food, starting with breakfast, and including carbohydrates. Balancing carbohydrates and proteins will improve performance overall, and help muscles recover between practices and games.
Training, Conditioning and Rest
The successful athlete knows that knowledge of the sport, good training, long-term conditioning of the body and rest are all essential components to their continued success. They also know there aren’t really any shortcuts.
Skip the Supplements
Anabolic steroids are illegal without a doctor’s prescription. They can cause long-term heart problems, as well as damage to the skin and other organs which may be irreversible.
Don’t confuse these with anti-inflammatory steroids, such as prednisone, which treat serious conditions such as asthma, when prescribed by a doctor.
While it may be tempting to believe claims otherwise, athletes that are eating well-balanced meals don’t need supplements. They can increase their chances for success by keeping to the basics: hydration, calories, training, conditioning and rest.
Excellent skills that will serve them well in the long-game. Need a little extra guidance, another expert in your corner? Read more about performance-enhancing drugs here, and contact us if we can help.
